What is the Farm to School Network?

The Vermont Farm to School Network provides statewide leadership, coordination, and advocacy to advance new and existing Farm to School efforts in Vermont classrooms, cafeterias and communities. The Vermont Farm to School Network is open to all Farm to School advocates, practitioners, and programs across the state.

Join the Vermont Farm to School Network Mailing List 

Join the Vermont Farm to School LISTSERV. Hosted by the University of Vermont, The Vermont Farm to School LISTSERV will provide Farm to School programs and organizations across the state with the opportunity to share information, post event listings or just ask a question. This is a great way to get the latest state and national updates about Farm to School and stay connected with programs all over Vermont.

To join, send an email to listserv@list.uvm.edu and place a subscribe command, subscribe farmtoschool (your name here), in the body of the message. Replace (your name here) with your first and last name, for example:

Attend a Vermont Farm to School Network Forum

The Vermont Farm to School Network hosts Network forums throughout the year aimed at shared learning and networking. The Network forums are held in January, May and October.

All Network fourms can be found on the Vermont FEED calendar. The gatherings range from broad networking events to topic focused. If you have a calendar item you would like to share with the network or if you have a topic idea for a Network forum, please let us know.

The Vermont Farm to School Network is facilitated by Vermont FEED. We welcome your feedback, thoughts, events, and resources to add to the mix.

Regional and Statewide Resources

Farm to School programs and activities are happening on many levels and in many school communities around the state. Listed below are several broader regional or statewide programs that can be a resource for you.

The Burlington School Food Project: Burlington School Food Project is Vermont’s largest farm to school program, encompassing the entire Burlington School District. It is widely recognized as a model program for the rest of the state and country. Its mission is to connect students and their families with whole, fresh, and local foods to improve the health of the community. The district-wide effort employs a farm to school coordinator for its food service program and benefits from varied input of multiple community partners

Green Mountain Farm to School: A leader in the growing farm-to-school movement in Vermont, Green Mountain Farm-to-School (GMFTS) promotes the health and wellbeing of Vermont's children, farms and communities by providing programs to connect schools and farms through food and education.

Upper Valley Farm to School Network: The Upper Valley Farm to School Network is a group of farmers, teachers, parents, students and community members working to integrate local farms and food into school cafeterias, classrooms and communities in Vermont and New Hampshire’s Connecticut River Upper Valley.

Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets: The Development Division of the VAAFM, administers the Vermont Farm to School grant program that supports the planning and implementation of Farm to School programs. 

Vermont FEED: Since 2000 Vermont Food Education Every Day (VT FEED), a partnership of: Food Works at Two Rivers Center, the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont and Shelburne Farms, has been offering trainings to educators, food service staff, farmers and community members to increase the capacity of schools to implement Farm to School programs. Vermont FEED has also worked on the state level to address policy, funding, evaluation and communication about Farm to School efforts. Vermont FEED is honored to serve as the servant leader for the Vermont Farm to School Network.

 

The Windham County Farm to School Program of Post Oil Solutions is expanding in response to our community’s growing commitment to cultivate healthy, food-wise, invested young adults. They are excited to offer comprehensive Farm to School programming throughout Windham County that improves student nutrition, health, and academic performance, while supporting the development of a strong community-based food system.
