VT FEED crafts recommendations for improving Farm Bill Nutrition Title

February 21, 2012

Did you know that one in seven Vermonters is food insecure? That means they don't have access to enough food to lead an active, healthy life. The re-authorization of the Farm Bill provides an opportunity to help end hunger in Vermont and across the US.

Along with several other statewide organizations, Vermont FEED helped develop recommendations for improving the Farm Bill's nutrition programs. These include:

·        Increasing access to SNAP, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (called 3Squares in Vermont),

·        Expanding access to fresh local foods in the Commodity Food Program, and

·        Helping schools meet improved nutrition regulations.

Go to Hunger Free Vermont's website to read all the recommendations and SIGN ON in support. They hope to get 500 signatures by the end of March. Please help!
